최대 4m의 단차를 가지고 있는 지형. 일정간격으로 띄워져 배치된 5개의 건물들. 제각각의 정면성. 교육을 위한 목적이었기에 대칭성과 권위를 기반으로 만들어진 입면, 그리고 그 입면을 이루는 낡은 마감재.우리는 기존 단지의 단점들을 충북 문예의 장점으로 치환할수 있는 방안과 기존 구조 속에서 변모하는 용도에 걸맞는 새로운 공간을 찾아내고자 하였다.
5개의 건물들을 모두 연결하며 대지의 단차를 극복하는 산책로를 만들고, 각 건물의 공용프로그램들과 엮는다. 건물과 건물 사이의 공간들은 사람들을 위한 쉼과 전시를 위한 마당으로 제안한다. 이러한 외부마당은 프로그램들 사이의 전이공간으로 자연스레 기능하며, 산책로는 모든 건물들을 두루 경험할 수 있는 하나의 예술향유 시퀀스로 작동한다.
기존의 대칭적이고 경직된 입면의 질서에 덧붙여진 산책로는 익숙하면서도 낯설은 풍경, 사람들의 행위가 배경이 되는 새로운 얼굴이 된다. 이로써 해당 대지가 목가적 풍경을 가진 문화복합시설로서 도심지와는 다른 매력으로 방문객들에게 다가가길 기대한다.
A site with up to four meters of level difference, five buildings arranged at regular intervals, and multiple, disconnected frontages. Originally designed for educational purposes, the complex is characterized by symmetrical and authoritative facades, finished with aging materials. Our proposal seeks to transform these existing limitations into strengths for the Chungbuk Cultural and Arts Complex, while discovering new spatial possibilities within the existing structures that respond to their evolving programmatic roles.
A promenade is introduced to connect all five buildings while overcoming the site's changes in elevation, weaving together the shared public programs of each building. The spaces between the buildings are reimagined as courtyards for rest, gathering, and exhibition. These outdoor spaces naturally function as transitional zones between programs, while the promenade becomes an artistic sequence through which visitors can experience the entire campus as a unified whole.
Added to the existing order of symmetrical and rigid facades, the promenade creates a landscape that is both familiar and unfamiliar—a new face of the complex where the activities of its users become part of the architecture itself. Through this intervention, the site is envisioned as a cultural complex embedded within a pastoral setting, offering visitors a distinctive experience and atmosphere that differs from that of urban cultural institutions.
