택지개발지구에 속한 대지의 사면은 각기 다른 맥락을 가지고 있었다. 상대적으로 일사와 조망이 우수한 남측과 동측면과는 달리 북측으로는 어린이집과 초등학교와 인접하며, 서측으로는 아파트의 거실과 마주하고 있었다. 에코3유치원은 대지 사면의 서로 다른 조건의 맥락 속에서 조화롭게 녹아들고, 주변 도시적 형태에 순응하고자 하였으며, 그 결과로 생겨난 세개의 덩어리는 오히려 아이들만을 위한 마당을 공유하는 작은 마을과 같은 유치원이 되었다.
날씨와 관계없이 다양한 행사를 수용하고, 270명 원생의 등하교시간의 병목, 피난 안전을 고려한 지상층의 넓은 웰컴홀:마을광장은 남측 맞이마당과 북동측의 중앙마당, 그리고 지상2층의 강당을 연결함으로써 공간의 확장을 가능하게 하는 동시에 안전한 집중형 구조의 유치원으로 기능하도록 하였다. 한편 지상층으로의 접근성과 아이들의 스케일을 고려하여 지상3~4층은 외부중정을 별도로 계획하고, 옥상 놀이터까지 연결하여 수직적 경험이 가능하도록 한다.
건물의 사면은 각 지점에서 어떻게 비추어질지 상상하며 서로 다른 얼굴을 가진 유치원이 될 수 있기를 의도하였다. 또한 경사 지붕 아래의 낮은 포켓 놀이공간, 시계탑을 연상시키는 코어, 각 층 집의 모양을 가진 교사연구실, 복도의 작은 포켓놀이공간, 교실마다의 생태발코니, 빛이 드는 작은 화장실 등 아이들의 눈높이에 맞춘 공간을 만들어내고자 했다. 실제 아이들이 공간을 이용하는 모습을 상상해가며 건물 구석구석 세심히 계획하였다.

The site, located within a planned residential development district, presented distinct contextual conditions on each of its four sides. While the southern and eastern edges benefited from favorable sunlight and open views, the northern edge was adjacent to a daycare center and an elementary school, and the western edge faced the living rooms of neighboring apartment buildings. In response to these differing conditions, Eco 3 Kindergarten was designed to integrate harmoniously into its surroundings and adapt to the existing urban fabric. As a result, the building mass was divided into three volumes that together form a small village-like environment, sharing a central courtyard dedicated exclusively to children.
At the heart of the project is a generous Welcome Hall—Village Square on the ground floor, designed to accommodate a variety of events regardless of weather conditions while addressing arrival and departure congestion for approximately 270 children and ensuring safe evacuation. By connecting the southern entrance court, the northeastern central courtyard, and the auditorium on the second floor, this space enables the building to expand and contract according to different activities while functioning as a safe and efficiently organized kindergarten. Meanwhile, the third and fourth floors are organized around an additional outdoor courtyard, providing improved accessibility and a scale appropriate for children. This courtyard is further connected to the rooftop playground, creating opportunities for vertical exploration and movement throughout the building.
The building was conceived as a kindergarten with different faces, each responding to how it would be perceived from various points around the site. Particular attention was given to creating spaces that resonate with children's scale and imagination: intimate pocket play areas tucked beneath the sloping roofs, a core reminiscent of a clock tower, teacher research rooms shaped like small houses, pocket play spaces along the corridors, ecological balconies attached to every classroom, and small bathrooms filled with natural light. Through these carefully considered elements, the project seeks to create an environmental space from the perspective of children, imagining how they would experience and inhabit every corner of the building.
